The Kölner Bank eG was a cooperative bank based in Cologne . It was one of the largest Volksbanks in the Rhineland and ranked 68th among all German Volksbanks and Raiffeisenbanks in terms of total assets . Their area of ​​activity included the city of Cologne and neighboring communities. In 2017, the Cologne bank celebrated its 150th anniversary. The merger to form Volksbank Köln Bonn took place retroactively as of January 1, 2017 .

history

The legal predecessor of the Kölner Bank is the “Kölner Vorverschuß- und Creditverein e. G. ”, which was created on October 27, 1861 by several master craftsmen and, based on the Prussian cooperative law passed in March 1867 , took on the legal form of a registered cooperative , which was entered in the cooperative register on September 27, 1867 . The founders included the factory owner Ernst Schmidts ( Cologne-Lindenthal ), the master locksmith Heinrich Engelskirchen (Cologne), the building trade master Josef Steinkrüger (Cologne) and the chief guild master Gustav Pesch ( Cologne-Ehrenfeld ). On March 16, 1869, the name was changed to “Kölner Gewerbebank e. G. ”, which in turn was converted into a stock corporation in September 1923 . The liquidation of the AG was already decided on May 5, 1925, the bank returned to its original legal form (GmbH). In 1960 the name was changed to “Kölner Bank von 1867 e. G. “instead.

The number of members was 2,300 during the currency reform in June 1948, and in December 1966 it was 10,200; the balance sheet total grew from 3.2 million DM to 180 million DM.

In April 1991, the bank moved into the “IBM high-rise” on Hohenzollernring No. 31-35 with 11,000 square meters of floor space. Its membership continued to grow rapidly, and in 1985 it registered 25,000 members. By 2015 the number doubled to 50,000, in 2016 there were already 51,600 members.

In October 2017 (retroactive to January 1, 2017) the bank merged with Volksbank Bonn Rhein-Sieg eG to form Volksbank Köln Bonn eG .

The Kölner Bank eG had 27  branches (plus 4 self-service branches and 13 external ATMs ) in the Cologne city area.

Business direction and business success

The Kölner Bank eG operated the universal banking business for private and corporate customers as Volksbank . In addition to the classic loan and deposit business , she worked in the association business with Bausparkasse Schwäbisch Hall , R + V Versicherung , the investment company Union Investment , Deutsche Genossenschafts Hypothekenbank , VR Leasing and Teambank Nürnberg (e @ syCredit) .

The Kölner Bank was committed to Cologne and the people in the region. In 2016, almost 200 social and charitable projects were funded and 240,000 euros were raised for them. The Kölner Bank has been operating a crowdfunding platform with all zesamme since 2014 . Citizens and Kölner Bank made joint donations for charitable projects in the region. The bank supported projects worthy of funding in Cologne with a total of 50,000 euros per year through its association “One for another”. The aim of the association was to actively provide “help for self-help” in and for the region. Once a year, employees of the bank got involved as part of a volunteer day.
