Edmund Jacoby

Edmund Jacoby (* 1948 ) is a German publisher, translator and, as a narrator, the author of several books.

Life

After studying philosophy and history in Tübingen , Paris and Frankfurt am Main , he did his doctorate with Iring Fetscher on the subject of “Knowledge and Wealth. On the relationship between universal and particular socialization ”. He initially worked as a lecturer at Frankfurt University, then switched to a position as a publishing editor and finally became the publishing director of Gerstenberg Verlag .

The publishing house he directed from 1996 to August 2007 has published numerous books of his own. He was particularly interested in book productions in the fields of philosophy and mythology . This included the bestseller “50 Classic Philosophers”.

Together with Nicola Stuart, he founded in the spring of 2008 Berlin - Prenzlauer Berg -based publishing house Jacoby & Stuart . Together with the French publishing house “La Martinière” as a minority shareholder, Jacoby wants to build on the priorities of his previous publishing program.

Jacoby works as a translator from English and French and publishes many anthologies as well as retelling numerous myths and legends. He is married and lives in Berlin.
