The castle Welterode whose main building still stands today, is located in the municipality of Eitorf in Eiptal . It was originally a moated castle .
building
Welterode is a simple three-storey building, which should previously only have been accessible via a drawbridge and a front building. In addition, there used to be a mill and another outbuilding, both of which were removed by road construction in the 19th century. The property included Heckerhof , Juckenbacher Hof and the Spicher Wald . This also included vineyards on the Eitorfer Berg, the mills at Eitorf , Ottersbach and the Unkelmühle as well as other lands near Linkenbach , am Krabach and Kraheck .
history
The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1249. Mechthild , the widowed Countess von Sayn, donates the monastery Herchen Hof Mauchenrode and the tithes to Schönenberg and Waldenrode .
In 1289 Welterode Castle was owned by the City of Cologne . In 1404 a Friedrich von Welteroide is mentioned who was reconciled with the city of Cologne.
The current building dates from at least the 16th century, since then it has been owned by the Counts of Nesselrode-Ehreshoven .
In 1712 Peter Ennenbach married a Cillig and lives on Welteroth. In 1730 Henricus Barrig married Susanne Catharina Wilhelmina, he is also known as Henricus Barrich Kellmann, d. H. Waiter and administrator of the castle, mentioned in other writings.
In 1870 the manor was sold by Count Maximilian von Nesselrode-Ehreshoven to Jakob von Kaufmann-Asser from Cologne, and soon afterwards to Count Hoensbroech zu Schloss Türnich , who remained the owner until at least 1938.
