Miel Castle
Miel Castle is located in the Miel district of the North Rhine-Westphalian municipality of Swisttal in the Voreifel .
In the place of an older moated castle of the Spies von Büllesheim built a baroque palace from 1767–1772, the Electorate of Cologne and true regent of Kurköln under Elector Max Friedrich, Caspar Anton von Belderbusch . Raised Imperial Count of Belderbusch from 1782, he lived in Miel Castle, his personal refuge, until his death in 1784. The building is modeled on a French hunting lodge in the style of Louis XIV. Because of an amorous liaison between the Minister of State and the abbess of the Vilich women's monastery , Caroline von Satzenhofen , there was a room for her in the palace.
Since the exhibition Riss im Himmel in 2000, the interior of the then extensively renovated pleasure palace (with remarkable furnishings) has been open to visitors. The garden room with the wall paintings by the Bonn court painter François Rousseau is particularly important .
Today the castle and its outbuildings are used by a golf club .
