Kamenice nad Lipou (German: Kamnitz an der Linde ) is a small town on the Kamenice in Okres Pelhřimov in the Czech region of Vysočina .
history
The town of Kamenice was built around a castle of the same name, founded by the noble von Beneschau family before 1248 . The community under the castle received town charter in 1348. The city was fought over during the Hussite Wars, and in 1462 it received expanded city rights. The nickname nad Lipou ( on the linden tree ) has been documented since 1541 , after a linden tree next to the castle. This castle was rebuilt into a renaissance castle in 1580–1583, redesigned in Baroque style in 1744 and adapted to the classical taste of the time in 1839–1842.
A larger Jewish community lived in Kamenice until the Second World War , which had its own school from 1843–1897 and had the last synagogue built in Czechoslovakia in 1937/1938 .
