history

Village square with chapel

The first written mention of the village comes from 1437.

After the replacement of patrimonial Staré Bříště in 1850 with the district Vlčí Hory became an independent municipality in the district administration Německý Brod . At the beginning of the 20th century a lively social life developed in the place; clubs and the volunteer fire brigade were founded . In 1910 the village came to the Humpolec district and since 1961 it has belonged to Okres Pelhřimov . In 1958 the restaurant closed, a little later the fire brigade disbanded. In 1974 it was incorporated into Mladé Bříště . Staré Bříště has been independent again since 1990. At the end of the 20th century, the village lost a large part of its inhabitants through emigration. The former farms were used as holiday homes from then on. Most of the houses in Staré Bříště are not permanently inhabited and are used for recreational purposes.
