Kamen Castle

Kámen (German stone ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located 15 kilometers west of Pelhřimov and belongs to the Okres Pelhřimov .

geography

Kámen is located in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands on a hilltop crowned by the Kámen Castle on the state road 19 between Pelhřimov and Tábor . To the west lies the 45 hectare site of the former Kámen military airfield.

Neighboring towns are Nízká Lhota and Nový Dvůr in the northeast, Zlátenka in the east, Vysoká Lhota in the southeast, Dobrá Voda u Pacova in the south, Vintířov and Věžná in the southwest, Dvořiště and Obrataň in the west and in the northwest.

history

The first written mention of Kámen took place in 1316. The place founded at the foot of the castle was referred to as a town from 1460 onwards. Together with Eš and Věžná and the Janov Vorwerk , the place was subordinate to the Stein rule. Various noble families were enfeoffed with the originally royal castle in the Middle Ages. During this time the place had its heyday and had its own brewery. In 1366 the owner of the estate, Heinrich von Ziegelheim, had a gold mine built.

In the 17th century, Kámen was owned by the Lords of Malovec . Johann Christoph von Malovec had the chapel of the Virgin Mary rebuilt into a family burial place in 1671–1673. After the Malovec, the Qualtenberg family acquired Kámen around 1700. In 1848 the patrimonial rule was replaced and Kámen became an independent municipality.

In 1924 the road to Dobrá Voda was built.

The last owner of the castle, Antonín Fleissig, who had owned the goods since 1916, was expropriated in 1948 and the castle was nationalized.

Community structure

The municipality of Kámen consists of the districts Kámen ( stone ), Nízká Lhota (until 1947 Německá Lhota , German German Lhota ) and Nový Dvůr ( German Heuhof ).
