history
Křeč was probably founded in the 12th century, and a Romanesque rotunda stood on the site of the church. The village was first mentioned in 1358. The existence of the Hrádek Castle in Josafatský údolí has been documented since 1359. In 1363 the von Neuhaus family sold the property to the Rosenbergs . In 1428, during the Hussite Wars, the castle was in the hands of Ondřej von Nemyšl, who also called himself Ondřej von Hrádek. On August 19, 1435, the last battle of the Hussite Wars took place near Křeč , in which Ulrich II von Rosenberg defeated the Taborites . Since 1439 the Hrádek Castle was described as desolate and later the Josafat mill was built in its place.
In 1885 the place had 703 inhabitants and in 1900 there were exactly 600. In 1906 the narrow-gauge railway to Jindřichův Hradec was inaugurated. A memorial was erected in 1935 to mark the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Kretsch. In 1952 there were 401 people in Křeč.
