history
Mnich was first mentioned in documents in 1352 as the possession of Pelhřimov von Mnich. Seven years later, Purkart von Mnich took over the patronage of the church, which had been the parish church since 1371. In the place of today's village there was originally a fortified castle surrounded by entrenchments and moats. The von Mnich family died out after 1415.
In 1552 the Lords of Talmberg acquired Mnich. In 1583 the village burned down and the church was also destroyed. In 1588 the reconstruction of the place was completed.
In 1650 the impoverished parish was dissolved and attached to Deštná . In 1750, at the request of the owner of Mnich, Franz de Paula Freiherr von Gudenus, the parish of Mnich was re-established and in 1759 the church was elevated to a parish church. In 1779 the church was rebuilt, in which a solid church tower was built instead of the wooden bell tower. In 1780 the place consisted of 45 houses. From 1787 church records were available from Mnich.
After the abolition of patrimonial rule , the Kamenitz district administration, to which Mnich belonged from then on, arose from the Rothlhota , Kamenitz and Neuötting dominions . In 1906 the narrow-gauge railway from Obrataň to Jindřichův Hradec was inaugurated. Since 1971 the parish has been administered from Deštná.
