The village lies on the European main watershed between the Elbe and the Danube , which runs over the Prachatický les to the Křemešník . The Pláňavský potok rises in Nová Buková, and its waters lead southwards; to the west of the village, Podlesník, which drains to the north, has its origin. history

The first written mention of Nová Buková comes from the year 1203. Until the beginning of the 16th century Nová Buková was an independent estate and was then part of the Horní Cerekev estate. Around 1584 the Nová Buková manor was detached and the owner Arnošt Leskovec had a fortress built in 1590. In 1692 Nová Buková was again added to the Horní Cerekev rule and remained a part of it until the patrimonial rule was replaced.

In 1850 the community Nová Buková was established, which was attached to Horní Cerekev in 1975. Since 1992 Nová Buková has been a municipality again.
