history

The first written mention of Raichenau took place in 1352. The place was part of the Řečice rule belonging to the Archdiocese of Prague and was inhabited by Germans. During the tenure of Archbishop Ernst von Pardubitz , the market became the seat of an episcopal bailiff. In 1390 Raichenau was granted city rights.

In 1415, Bishop Konrad von Vechta pledged the rule Řečice with Reichenau to Jan von Chotěmice . During the Hussite Wars , the city was taken by the Hussites and the German population fled the place. While Řečice was held by the Hussite captain Nikolaus Sokol von Lamberg, the Catholic lords of Leskovec on Horní Cerekev were able to conquer Raichenau after fighting with the Hussites. After the end of the Hussite Wars, Janek von Chotěmice received his property back from Emperor Sigismund in 1436 and sold the rule the following year to Mikuláš Trčka von Lípa , who also owned the neighboring Želiv rule . Subsequently, the city was populated by the Czechs. After the rule Řečice fell to the court chamber after the death of Mikuláš Trčka in 1454, Ladislaus Postumus divided it into the rule Řečice and Pelhřimov . Rychnov remained Řečice, which the Witigone Heinrich von Stráž acquired. After him, various noble families took turns as owners. In 1496 the lords of Leskovec acquired the rule. After the death of Christoph von Leskovec, his sons shared the property in 1543. Rychnov fell to the later captain of the Prachin district, Vlachyn von Leskovec, who had the renaissance castle Nový Rychnov built as his seat on the site of the old fortress.

In 1586, Emperor Rudolf II bought the rule for the royal chamber. In 1597 the lords of Říčany acquired the Rychnov rule and reunited them with Řečice. After the Battle of White Mountain in 1623, Jan von Říčany's property was confiscated and Rychnov returned to the Prague Archdiocese. During the Thirty Years' War the whole area was devastated, and fortifications were built near the Šance hermitage. Archbishop Johann Joseph von Breuner took great pleasure in the area and had the Breunerhof built by the pond near Těšenov. In the years 1775 to 1784 there were peasant revolts, which were suppressed. In 1778 the castle and part of the city burned down.

On August 3, 1827, Rychnov was completely destroyed by a city fire, and all documents of the city and the parish registers were destroyed. After the reconstruction the market town was called Nový Rychnov . After the replacement of patrimonial Nový Rychnov belonged from 1850 to the district administration Pelhřimov. At that time 1047 people lived in the town. In 1920 the archbishop's large estates were parceled out as part of the land reform. During the German occupation, the Jewish families Ančerl, Stettner and Julius Böhm were brought to concentration camps, where most of them were murdered. Of the Ančerl, only Karel Ančerl survived .

After the end of the Second World War, the Nový Rychnov Castle was confiscated and after 1945 the town charter was not renewed. In 1973 Čejkov was incorporated, in 1976 Řeženčice and Sázava were added. In 1991 Nový Rychnov had 1011 inhabitants. Since June 27, 2008 Nový Rychnov has the status of Městys.
