geography

Rohozná is located on the right side of the Rohozná river of the same name on the edge of the Čeřínek Nature Park in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands . To the north rises the 714 m high Čertův hrádek and in the northeast the Přední skála (712 m).

Neighboring towns are Dolní Hutě in the north, Hutě and Cejle in the northeast, Dolní Cerekev in the east, Familie and Spělov in the southeast, Batelov in the south, Bezděčín and Zadní Pole in the southwest, Těšenov in the west and Kopaniny, Sedlíšťky and Šance in the northwest.

history

The first written mention of Rohozná comes from the year 1209. The place had its greatest heyday in the 13th century due to the silver mining and was at that time exclusively inhabited by Germans.

Rohozná was the largest and richest village in the Pelhřimov estate , which Adam Říčanský of Říčany sold to Jan Trčka of Lípa in the 16th century . At the beginning of the 17th century, a plague epidemic broke out, from which almost all residents died. The few survivors who had fled to Pelhřimov had to pay dearly to the townspeople for their accommodation and food, so that the town acquired extensive forest holdings including the Rohozná glassworks and mines. The place never recovered from that.

Rohozná is currently one of the possible locations for a nuclear repository in the Czech Republic. A decision on this is to be made by 2025.
