Kaliště (German Kalischt ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located 24 kilometers northeast of Jindřichův Hradec and belongs to the Okres Jihlava .
geography
Kaliště is located north of the Javořická vrchovina, the highest part of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands . The place is on the left side of the Hamerský potok on a slope at the foot of the Stříbrný vrch (759 m). The Javořice (837 m) rises to the southeast . To the west of the village, the railway from Jindřichův Hradec to Pelhřimov / Jihlava passes, the next train station is at Jihlávka .
Neighboring towns are Jihlávka in the north, Horní Dubenky and Janštejn in the northeast, Klatovec in the south, Býkovec in the southwest, Horní Vilímeč in the west and Vesce and Počátky in the northwest.
history
The first written mention of the place comes from the year 1407. In 1580 the village consisting of 13 farmsteads was under the jurisdiction of the Jihlava courts . In 1870 Kaliště consisted of 30 houses and 230 inhabitants. The first school building was built in 1891, and in 1906 it was expanded to accommodate two-class classes. In 1912 370 people lived in the place. Býkovec was incorporated in 1960.
The place has been Catholic parish to Panské Dubenky since 1780 , the Protestant parish is in Horní Dubenky .
In the winter months, the area around Javořice is a popular area for cross-country skiers.

Sons and daughters of the church
- Jaroslav Hájek (* 1944), he wrote the texts for a cycle of different polkas, including the Jindřichohradecká Polka and Kališťska Polka. With 17 texts, which he wrote on August 31, 2001 in Pelhřimov, he was included in the Guinness Book of Records .
