Mrákotín (German Mrakotin ) is a minority in the Czech Republic . It is located 27 kilometers northeast of Jindřichův Hradec and belongs to the Okres Jihlava .

geography

Mrákotín is located in Javořická vrchovina, the highest part of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands . The Javořice (837 m) rises to the northwest . The place, through which the Myslůvka brook flows, lies at the northern foot of the 593 m high Hora hill and is surrounded by three large ponds Dolní Mrzatec, Hamer and Žibřid. North is the Burgruine Štamberk ( Sternberg ).

Neighboring towns are Lhotka in the north, Vanov and Částkovice in the northeast, Hostětice and Krahulčí in the east, Horní Myslová and Borovná in the southeast, Dobrá Voda and Olší in the south, Praskolesy in the southwest and Hamry and Horní Bolíkov in the west.

history

Mrákotín was probably founded in the 12th century. The place was first mentioned in 1385 as the property of the Štamberk / Sternberg Castle. After its destruction in the Hussite Wars, Mrákotín became part of the Telč domain and belonged to the von Neuhaus family . Mrákotín has been known as a town since 1569, the exact time of the survey is not known. In the 16th and 17th centuries gold and silver mining was carried out near Dobrá Voda , which had its heyday during the reign of Zacharias von Neuhaus . Later attempts were unsuccessful to revive the mining industry.

After the death of the last male descendant of the von Neuhaus family, Joachim Ulrich von Neuhaus , his daughter Lucie Otilie, who had been married to Wilhelm Slawata since 1602, inherited his property in 1604 . Joachim Graf Slawata founded the Lázně Jáchymovy ( Joachimsbad ) at a healing spring near Dobrá Voda in 1682 and had the church of St. Joachim built. After 1710 the bathing business was stopped again. In 1684 Mrákotín received the privilege for two annual fairs from Emperor Leopold I. After the death of the last Slawata, Mrákotín fell as part of the Teltsch rule in 1712 to Franz Anton von Liechtenstein-Kastelkorn , who bequeathed it to Alois Podstatský von Prusinowitz . The castle and the manor remained in the possession of this family until 1945.

The place was best known for the Mrakotine granite . The fine-grained rock is of good quality. Starting in 1923, the Mrákotín stonemasons produced the 15.5 m long and 96 t heavy monolith for President Masaryk for the Prague Castle, which was erected in 1928 . This work turned out to be more difficult than expected. Since Mrákotín did not have a railway terminal, the 19 m long monolith had to be transported to Telč using tracks laid on the road. During the transport, the pulling rope broke on a hill and the load was thrown from the tracks. The monolith broke into two parts, the larger of which was erected at the Emaus Monastery in Prague and the smaller in Telč. A new stone had to be broken for the Prague Castle, which was broken during processing. After the third stone was worked out, it was so massive that part of it broke off when it was lifted for transport. It was rolled to Telč on iron rolls. Since the stone colossus could only be moved about 300 m a day in this way, the transport took 50 days to the transhipment point. After another four days he arrived in Prague by train.

Mrákotín was elevated to Městys on January 23, 2007.
