history
The Štamberk / Sternberg Castle was built in the 1280s on royal land by the Vöttau burgrave and highest cupbearer of the Kingdom of Bohemia, Jaroslaw von Sternberg ( Jaroslav ze Šternberka ), as a guard castle on the national border. In 1339 the then margrave Charles IV exchanged the Štamberk castle together with the Telč reign for the remote Bánov reign with Ulrich III. from Neuhaus . In 1356 the Štamberk Castle was owned by the nobleman Stephan von Břesnitz ( Štěpán z Březnice ), who sold it to Heinrich II von Neuhaus that year . His niece Elisabeth / Eliška († 1417) received the castle and lordship of Štamberk as a marriage property in 1399. After the death of her first husband Johann von Krawarn ( Jan z Kravař ), the possessions fell back to the von Neuhaus family branch in 1404 . Subsequently, the Štamberk castle and manor, which consisted of over twenty villages and towns and part of Slavonitz , were incorporated into the Telč manor.
During the Hussite Wars , the castle was destroyed in 1423 and not rebuilt.
