Žatec (German Saatz ) is a municipality with 109 inhabitants in the Czech Republic .
geography
Žatec is four kilometers northeast of the city of Telč at 534 m above sea level. M. on the Moravian Thaya . Neighboring towns are Urbanov in the north, Ořechov in the east, Mysliboř in the west and Dolní Dvorce and Stranná in the south.
history
The first documentary mention comes from the year 1371.
In the Hluboký žlab near Žatec there is a cross stone in which a cross and two carpenter's axes are carved. According to a legend, two greedy residents there got into an argument over a found ax that one killed the other with it. According to another tradition, at a harvest wreath festival in the village, journeyman carpenter who both wanted the same girl got into an argument. After the argument became solid and both were thrown out of the tavern, they continued their argument. Her comrades later found her bleeding to death in Hluboký žlab.
