history

The Slavic settlement Žďárek probably originated in the 12th century. In the course of the colonization of the Bohemian border areas with Moravia under the Přemyslids , the place was expanded into a village by German settlers in the course of the 13th century. The village was first mentioned in writing in 1233 as one of the tenth villages of the parish in the Moravian Jihlava , which the Premonstratensian monastery Želiv acquired from the Teutonic Order . In 1410 the parish of Seelenz was established . After the monastery was sacked by the Hussites , the Leskovský von Leskovec family became the new owners of Seelenz . They were followed by the Trčka from Lípa . Seelenz sold them to the city of Iglau in 1536. In 1625, the Jihlava judge Johann Heidler von Bukau acquired the village and added it to the rule of Stöcken . Since 1642 lessons have been held in various houses in the village. Johann Anton Pachta von Rájov, who acquired the rule of Stöcken in 1678, had a hunting lodge built in the forest near stepsz , which he named Karlswald on the occasion of the imperial coronation in 1711 . Subsequently, Seelenz was connected to the Stepsz estates. Between 1725 and 1735 Philipp Ludwig von Sinzendorf was the owner of steps and Deutsch Schützendorf. Bishop Moritz Adolf Karl von Sachsen-Zeitz-Neustadt acquired the goods from Bishop Sinzendorf , who sold them to Joseph Karl Palm von Gundelfingen in 1748 . In 1788 a school building was built. In 1840 the estate was sold to the Hohenzollern family . Seelenz was mostly populated by German people and belonged to the Iglauer Sprachinsel.

After the end of patrimonial, Seelenz became an independent municipality in the Polná district in 1850 . In 1863 the Hohenzollern merged their property in Deutsch Schützendorf and steps to Fideikommiß . In 1878, Seelenz was assigned to the Deutschbrod district . In addition to the two-class German school, a one-class school for the Czech minority was later created. In 1890 a major fire destroyed 29 houses including the church and the rectory. In 1901 the volunteer fire brigade Seelenz was founded. At the beginning of the 20th century, Seelenz was the pastor for Hilbersdorf, Pfauendorf, Deutsch Schützendorf, Dobrenz , Philippsdorf and Klein Wiesnitz . In 1916 the Clementine Order bought a homestead in Seelenz. The sisters established the Society of St. Francis and ran an orphanage and old people's home there. After the end of the Second World War , the German population was expelled . In the second half of the 20th century, the home was expanded and turned into a retirement home with 100 places. Since 1961 Ždírec has belonged to the Okres Jihlava . In 1974 the school closed and the children were retrained to Dobronín .
