history

Kámen Castle
Tower of the Kámen Castle

The first written evidence of the castle comes from 1316. Its owner at that time was Nimír von Kamen. In 1328 Johann von Luxemburg enfeoffed Bušek Tluksa with the castle. His son Přibík Tluksa, who had inherited Kámen together with his brothers, sold the rule to Heinrich von Ziegelheim in 1356. He had the palace rebuilt between 1356 and 1366. Gold mining began in the Stein rule under Heinrich von Ziegelheim. After Ziegelheim surrendered the Stein rule, it returned to the Lords of Tluksa. They supported King Wenceslas in the power struggles for the Bohemian crown. After Jan Tluksa's death in 1418, his cousin Přibík Tluksa inherited the property. During the Hussite Wars he made Kámen an important base for the insurgents between the Hussite centers of Tábor and Pelhřimov . His son Hynek Tluksa sold the rule of Kámen in 1437 with all accessories to Purkart Kamarét of Žirovnice. During the renewed power struggles in Bohemia, he was one of the supporters of the provincial administrator Georg von Podiebrad . On August 4, 1450, a meeting between Georg von Podiebrad and the leader of the Strakonitz Alliance, Heinrich IV von Rosenberg , took place at the castle . In 1456 Purkart Kamarét sold the Kámen estate to the Trčka brothers from Lípa on Pelhřimov. The subsequent owner of the castle, including the town of Kámen and the villages of , Důl , Vysoká Lhota and Dobrá Voda , was Jan Sádlo von Smilkov in 1460. His inheritance fell in 1464 to his brother-in-law Petr Břekovec von Ostromeč and Kozí Hřbet. Four years later, Břekovec sold the castle to Oldřich Fifka z Vydří. Fifka was accused a little later by Jan Malovec von Pacov as a helper in forging coins. In 1479 Albert Fifka sold Kámen to Jan von Vojslavice. He was followed in 1499 by his son Markvart von Vojslavice, who was released from the feud in 1504 by Vladislav II . Markvart's son Petr sold half of the estate to Jan Zručský of Chřenovice. His sister Kathrina von Vojslavice later inherited the remaining property, who brought her property into her second marriage to Petr Malovec von Malovice in 1523 . Malovec bought back the other half of the rule and reunited both shares. Petr Malovec of Malovice expanded the rule, it included ten villages and the town of Kámen in the middle of the 16th century. His three sons divided the inheritance in 1557 and the Malovec finally only kept the castle with the Vorwerk, the town, as well as Eš and part of Vysoká Lhota.

Under Jan Kryštof Malovec, who became the owner of Kámen in 1640, the castle was rebuilt in Baroque style, with the southern residential wing being built. In 1673 the tower was built above the former staircase. He had a chapel built next to the town, which also became the family's burial place. His son of the same name Jan Kryštof Malovec sold Kámen at the beginning of the 18th century to Franz Kressel von Qualtenberg, who had to sell the castle in 1747 due to excessive indebtedness. The owners subsequently changed in quick succession and the castle fell into disrepair. Wenzel Freiherr Enis von Atter and Iveaghe auf Enis-Laschan had major repairs and romantic redesigns carried out on the dilapidated building between 1860 and 1870. Since the end of the 19th century, the castle has belonged to middle-class families. After the communists came to power, Kámen Castle was confiscated from the property of Antonín Fleissig in 1948 and declared a state cultural property on January 13, 1953.

In 1962 the castle was transferred to the Pelhřimov District National Committee (ONV). The dilapidated castle was gradually repaired until the 1970s. The motorcycle museum opened in the castle on June 22, 1974. After the district administrations in the Czech Republic were dissolved at the end of 2002, at the beginning of 2003 the castle from Okres Pelhřimov became the property of Kraj Vysočina .
