Troisdorf-Mitte or Alt-Troisdorf is one of the twelve localities of Troisdorf in the North Rhine-Westphalian Rhein-Sieg district . Most of the Troisdorf residents live in Troisdorf-Mitte, the proportion of foreign residents is 17.05%. A modern pedestrian zone invites you to go shopping and linger in the numerous restaurants. This district also offers relaxation with the city forest bordering on Wissem Castle , which offers opportunities for walking with its deer enclosure and bird park. Europe's only picture book museum is located in Wissem Castle .
history
Troisdorf is originally referred to as Truhtesdorf in a document from the Siegburg Benedictine Abbey Michaelsberg from 1075 . The former knight's seat Burg Wissem, which is located near the city center on the edge of the forest , also speaks for an early settlement . The location on the right Rhine route and the Sieg route made Alt-Troisdorf interesting for industrial companies in the second half of the 19th century. In 1887 a factory for primers and detonators was built by what would later become Dynamit Nobel AG . 1952 Troisdorf received city rights .
Until the 19th century, Alt-Troisdorf only had a few hundred inhabitants. Only with industrialization in the 20th century did population growth accelerate. In 1895 only 2,825 people lived in the town, in 1968 there were already 18,000.
Buildings
- Troisdorf city gates: Two stainless steel constructions designed by Joachim Bandau and Victor Bonato in 1984 with transparent, reflective and water-overflowing glass surfaces, which are located at the beginning and end of the pedestrian zone .
- Wissem Castle: After the building was previously used as a city administration and registry office , it now houses a picture book museum, among other things . However, there is still a usable wedding room.
