Parish Church of the Holy Family in Oberlar

Parish Church of the Holy Family

The representative parish church, which dominates the district, was built due to external circumstances in several construction phases, almost 50 years apart, which gives it a particularly interesting architectural history and an unusual shape. The Cologne architect Theodor Roß was responsible for the planning. After his death in 1930, the second and third construction phases were carried out by his son Paul. The first plans from 1908 envisaged a historicist church, of which only the transept was built. The nave was extended in 1933 and a choir room in 1951. The church interior contains a unique series of windows by the artist Paul Weigmann . In 1957 the massive church tower was built, which also serves as the parish center and carries a six-part bronze bell from the Eifel bell foundry from Brockscheid . This bells is one of the largest and most beautiful bells in the Archdiocese of Cologne. By resolution of the culture committee of the city of Troisdorf on September 5, 2007, the parish church was officially entered in the city's list of monuments. It is currently being extensively converted into a modern parish and meeting center.
