The name was first mentioned on a document that a knight Ludwig von Rott sealed in 1289. Haus Rott was destroyed with a cannon by Cologne troops on August 28, 1416.

history

Together with Troisdorf-West , the district of Rotter See is also the youngest in the city of Troisdorf. Before 1999, Rotter See was still part of the Sieglar district .

In 1964 it was decided to develop the then agriculturally used area of the current district, the district was built from 1970. Rotter See partially surrounds the lake of the same name, a former gravel pit used from 1860 to 1978, which is used in summer as a recreational area and bathing lake.

One of the most famous building ruins in Germany stood in Rotter See. The " Kaiserbau ", as this hotel shell was called, was a symbol of Troisdorf for more than 25 years, even if not all Troisdorfers were proud of this ruin. Several restructuring efforts mostly failed because of financing, and so the right on which was A 59 located building on May 13, 2001 exploded.
