Breitenstein is a district of Marialinden in the town of Overath in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany .

Location and description

The district of Breitenstein , which is primarily characterized by agriculture and forestry, lies on the largely nature-protected Naafbachtal , which here primarily forms the border with the Rhein-Sieg district . The naturally meandering Naafbach rises from two source streams in the forest area of the Kleiner Heckberg and is also fed by a number of underground springs. The next localities are Niedergrützenbach , Obergrützenbach , Pit Nikolaus , Fischermühle and Eckhausen (Rhein-Sieg-Kreis). The varied landscape is home to rare animals and plants, such as the red kite .

From the Prussian new admission of 1892, the place is regularly recorded as Breitenstein on measuring table sheets .

In 1822, 33 people lived in the place categorized as a courtyard and designated as Breitenstein , which after the collapse of the Napoleonic administration and its replacement belonged to the Overath mayor in the Mülheim am Rhein district . For the year 1830 39 inhabitants are given for the place called Breitenstein . The place, which was categorized as a village in 1845 according to the overview of the government district of Cologne , had eight residential buildings with 46 inhabitants, all of them Catholic denominations. The municipality and estate district statistics of the Rhine province lists Breitenstein in 1871 with 13 houses and 67 inhabitants.
