history

The place name is a -bruch -name, meaning a boggy, swampy place. He refers to the location of the residential area in the Aggeraue.

The Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies , Blatt Amt Steinbach , shows that the living space had a courtyard as early as 1715, which is labeled as a break . At that time the place was part of the honor of saints in the parish of Overath.

The place is recorded on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1817 without a name. The Prussian first recording from 1845 also shows the residential area without a name. From the Prussian new admission in 1892, the place is regularly recorded as Broich on measuring table sheets .

After the collapse of the Napoleonic administration and its replacement, the place belonged to the Overath mayor in the Mülheim am Rhein district . For the year 1830 16 inhabitants are given for the place called Brug . In 1845, according to the survey of the government district of Cöln, categorized as Hof and called Broich , at that time it had three residential buildings with 26 inhabitants, all of them Catholic denominations. The local and Gutbezirksstatistik the Rhine Province leads Grevenbroich 1871 with eight houses and 36 residents. In the municipality lexicon for the province of Rhineland from 1888, eight houses with 28 inhabitants are given for Broich . In 1895 the place had six houses with 32 inhabitants, in 1905 four houses and 17 inhabitants are given.
