Meegen is a district of Marialinden in the town of Overath in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany .

Location and description

The agricultural district is located between Marialinden and the Naafbachtal . (Not to be confused with the district of Meegen near Hohkeppel .) The next places are, Birkenhof , Hardt , Oderscheiderberg , Niedergrützenbach and Kirschbaum . From a natural point of view, the area is part of the Marialinder Riedelland , which in turn is part of the Agger-Sülz plateaus . Numerous rare animals and plants have found a home in the wet green areas. The non-built-up areas of Meegen lie in the conservation area Bergische plateau to Overath . The valley area of ​​the Kleine Naaf, bordering southeast near Hardt, is located in the Naafbachtal nature reserve and FFH area .

The Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies , Blatt Amt Steinbach , shows that the residential area had three farms as early as 1715, which are labeled as Megen . Carl Friedrich von Wiebeking names the court on his charter of the Duchy of Berg in 1789 as Megen . It shows that the place was part of the Honschaft Burg in the parish of Overath at that time .

The place is recorded on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1817 as Meigen . The Prussian first recording from 1845 shows the residential area under the name Nalgen . From the Prussian new admission of 1892, the place is regularly on the measurement table as Meegen . recorded.

In 1822, 35 and 30 people respectively lived in the two Overather Meigen in two places categorized as courtyards, which after the collapse of the Napoleonic administration and its replacement belonged to the Overath mayor in the Mülheim am Rhein district . It is not clear from the list which of them is the Meigen mentioned here. For the year 1830, 41 and 36 inhabitants are given for the two places called Meigen . In 1845, according to the survey of the government district of Cöln, the place named Meegen and categorized as a courtyard had five residential buildings with 23 residents at that time, all of them Catholic denominations. The municipality and estate district statistics of the Rhine Province in 1871 list two Meegen with five residential buildings and 30 residents and seven residential buildings and 28 residents. In the municipality lexicon for the province of Rhineland from 1888, five houses with 26 inhabitants are given for Meegen bei Marialinden . In 1895 the place had two houses with 19 inhabitants and belonged denominationally to the Catholic parish of Marialinden, in 1905 four houses and 21 inhabitants are given.
