history

The name Pilegrinus de Gruzzenberg mentioned in early documents suggests that Obergrützenbach and Niedergrützenbach originally belonged to one farm and that one is a split from the other. The place was first mentioned in the 13th century as Gruzzenbach . The determinant grits probably actually goes back to semolina or gravel .

The Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies , Blatt Amt Steinbach , shows that the residential area had four farmsteads as early as 1715, which are labeled as Grüzemig . Carl Friedrich von Wiebeking names the court on his charter of the Duchy of Berg in 1789 as Grüzenbach . It shows that the place was part of the Honschaft Oderscheid in the parish of Overath at that time .

The place is recorded on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1825 as Ober Grützemich . The Prussian first recording from 1845 shows the residential area under the name Obergoetzenbach . From the Prussian new admission of 1892, the place is regularly recorded on measuring table sheets as Ober Grützenbach or Obergrützenbach .

In 1822, 24 people lived in the village of Gründemig , which was categorized as a courtyard and , after the collapse of the Napoleonic administration and its replacement, belonged to the Overath mayor in the Mülheim am Rhein district . No distinction is made between Obergrützenbach and Niedergrützenbach. For the year 1830 a total of 86 inhabitants are given for Obergrützenbach and Niedergrützenbach, the name for the upper suburb is Ober-Grötzemig . The place, which was categorized as a hamlet in 1845 according to the overview of the government district of Cöln and designated as Ober-Grötzenbach , had nine residential buildings with 59 inhabitants, all of them Catholic denominations. The municipality and estate district statistics of the Rhine province lists Obergrützenbach in 1871 with 14 houses and 63 inhabitants. In the municipality lexicon for the province of Rhineland from 1888, 14 houses with 68 inhabitants are given for Ober Grützenbach . In 1895 the place had eleven houses with 57 inhabitants and belonged denominationally to the Catholic parish Marialinden, in 1905 ten houses and 58 inhabitants are given.
