Großhurden is a district of Steinenbrück in the town of Overath in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany .

Location and description

The district of Großhurden is located above the federal motorway 4 on the county road 38, which connects Steinenbrück with Kreutzhäuschen and is called here Grabenstrasse. It belongs to the headwaters of the Holzbach , which flows into the Sülz . Places in the near are Heidermühle , Neuhurden , Mittelbech , Unterbech and Oberbech . Großhurden is the location of one of three Overather scattered settlements of Transylvanian Saxony .

The Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies , Blatt Amt Steinbach , shows that the residential area had four farmsteads as early as 1715, which are labeled as Hiden . Carl Friedrich von Wiebeking names the court on his charter of the Duchy of Berg in 1789 as Gr. Hucken . It shows that at that time the place was part of the Löderich family in the parish of Overath.

The place was on Heidenstrasse , an important medieval old highway from Cologne via Kassel to Leipzig . The old route of the old high path ran on today's road to Leffelsend .

The place is on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1817 as Gr. There are obstacles . The Prussian first recording from 1845 shows the residential area under the name Gr. Hurdles . From the Prussian new admission of 1892 the place is regularly as Gr. Hurden or Großhurden recorded.

In 1822, 43 people lived in the place, which was categorized as a courtyard and designated (major) hurdles , which after the collapse of the Napoleonic administration and its replacement belonged to the Overath mayor in the Mülheim am Rhein district . For the year 1830, a total of 78 inhabitants are given for large and small hurdles . In 1845, according to the overview of the government district of Cöln, categorized as a farm and designated Groß-Hurden , at that time it had five residential buildings with 35 inhabitants, all of them Catholic denominations. The municipal and Gutbezirksstatistik the Rhine Province leads Grosshurden 1871 with six houses and 49 residents. In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province of 1888, eight houses with 53 inhabitants are given for Groß Hurden .
