Herbert Nicke

Herbert Nicke (born October 5, 1952 in Bensberg ; † September 21, 2016 in Wiehl ) was a German homeland researcher and non-fiction author .

Life

Herbert Nicke was born in Bensberg in 1952 and grew up in Untereschbach . He studied geography , geology and history at the University of Cologne , where he received his doctorate . He moved to the Oberbergisches Land in 1979 and has been teaching there since 1981 at the Wiehler Gymnasium.

In addition to his work as a history and geography teacher, he did research on the regional and local history of the southern Bergisches Land and wrote numerous non-fiction books, including the first listing of the Bergische mills, comprising over a thousand objects . He was a co-founder of the Oberbergischer Naturschutzbund.

In 2003 he received the Rhineland thaler for his regional research . He died on September 21, 2016 after a long illness.
