history

From the Prussian new admission of 1892, the place is regularly recorded on measuring table sheets as Burgholz .

For the year 1830, 17 inhabitants are given for the place designated as a leasehold. The place, which was categorized as an isolated house according to the survey of the government district of Cologne in 1845 , had at that time a residential building with four inhabitants of the Catholic faith and one inhabitant of the Protestant faith. The list of residents and livestock from 1848 names the residents of Burgholz as the five-member family of Phillipp Schmitt, road keeper, archer and landlord , owner of two cows. The municipality and estate district statistics of the Rhine Province are listed by Burgholz in 1871 with four houses and 22 inhabitants.

In the municipality encyclopedia for the province of Rhineland from 1888 four houses with 22 inhabitants are given for Burgholz . In 1895 the place had three houses with 17 inhabitants, in 1905 five houses and 19 inhabitants are given.

In 1932, Franz Schulte-Hordelhoff (1859–1932) bought the forest as a recreation center for Wattenscheid children. A memorial stone commemorates the patron.
