Obervilkerath is a district of Vilkerath in the town of Overath in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany .

Location and description

Obervilkerath is located on Bundesstraße 55 , which is called Kölner Straße here. It is separated from the core of the Vilkerath area by an industrial park . With the merging of the former residential areas Obervilkerath, Untervilkerath , Steinhaus and Aggerhof , Vilkerath has grown together to form a closed settlement area and today forms one of the seven districts of Overath. Obervilkerath is connected to local public transport by bus line 310, which connects Overath with Gummersbach .

history

Vilkerath was mentioned in a document in the 13th century as Vilkerode and Wilkerode . The name probably refers to Untervilkerath, which forms the center of today's Vilkerath district.

The Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies , Blatt Amt Steinbach , shows that the residential area had four farmsteads as early as 1715, which are labeled as o Filigradt . Carl Friedrich von Wiebeking names the court on his charter of the Duchy of Berg in 1789 as Ob Vilkrath . It emerges from it that the place was titular place of the Honschaft Vilkerath in the parish Overath at that time .

The place is on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1817 as Ob. Vilkrath recorded. The Prussian first recording from 1845 shows the residential area under the name Vilkerath . From the Prussian new admission of 1892, the place is regularly on measurement table sheets as Obr. Vilkerath or Obervilkerath listed.

In 1822, 59 people lived in the place categorized as a courtyard and designated as Ober-Vilkerath , which after the collapse of the Napoleonic administration and its replacement belonged to the Overath mayor in the Mülheim am Rhein district . For the year 1830 99 inhabitants are given for the place designated as Ober- and Unter-Vilkerath . The town, which was categorized as a village in 1845 according to the overview of the government district of Cologne and designated Ober-Vilkerath , had eleven residential buildings with 63 inhabitants at that time, all of which were Catholic. The municipality and estate district statistics of the Rhine province lists Obervilkerath in 1871 with eleven houses and 57 inhabitants. In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province of 1888, 13 houses with 83 inhabitants are given for Ober Vilkerath . In 1895 the place had eleven houses with 53 inhabitants and belonged denominationally to the Catholic parish of Hohkeppel, in 1905 eleven houses and 54 inhabitants are given.

The Uhland mine was located near Obervilkerath .
