Birkenhof is a district of Marialinden in the town of Overath in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany .

Location and description

The agricultural district is located between Kreisstraße 37 and the Naafbachtal . The next places are Meegen , Hardt , Oderscheiderberg , Niedergrützenbach and Kirschbaum . From a natural point of view, the whole area is part of the Marialinder Riedelland , which in turn is part of the Agger-Sülz plateaus . Numerous rare animals and plants have found a home in the wet green areas. The Naafbachtal with the eponymous Naafbach is under nature protection. Individual areas of the area are also bird sanctuaries , water protection zones and the European fauna and flora habitats .

history

Birkenhof was an old feudal court. A Theodoricus de Birken has been handed down as its tenant in the 13th century . The Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies , Blatt Amt Steinbach , proves that the residential area already had three courtyards in 1715, which are labeled as Bircken . Carl Friedrich von Wiebeking names the court on his charter of the Duchy of Berg in 1789 as Biirken . It shows that the place was part of the Honschaft Oderscheid in the parish of Overath at that time .

The place is recorded on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1825 as birches . The Prussian first recording from 1845 shows the residential area under the name Birtgen . From the Prussian new admission of 1892 the place is regularly recorded on measuring table sheets as birch or birch near Marialinden .

In 1822, 18 and 24 people respectively lived in the two Overath birches in two places categorized as courtyards, which after the collapse of the Napoleonic administration and its replacement belonged to the Overath mayor in the Mülheim am Rhein district . It is not clear from the list which of them is the birch mentioned here. For the year 1830, 21 and 28 inhabitants are given for the places categorized as courtyards. In 1845, according to the survey of the government district of Cöln, categorized as a courtyard and called birch trees , at that time it had six residential buildings with 38 residents, all of them Catholic denominations. The municipal and estate district statistics of the Rhine Province list 1871 birch trees with nine houses and 44 residents. In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province of 1888, eight houses with 47 inhabitants are given for Birken bei Marialinden . In 1895 the place has eight houses with 32 inhabitants and belonged denominationally to the Catholic parish of Marialinden, in 1905 six houses and 21 inhabitants are given.

In the 21st century the name was changed to Birkenhof .
