The Bergische Plateaus are a natural spatial over-main unit with the order number 338 in the Bergisches Land , part of the Rhenish Slate Mountains .

It includes large parts of the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis , the Oberbergischer Kreis , Wuppertal , Schwelms and all of Remscheid and Solingen . In the east, the watershed between the river systems of the Wupper and the Ruhr forms the natural boundary , in the west the transition to the Bergische Heideterrasse , in the north the Wuppertal Valley and in the south the Bröl .

The plateaus lie at a height of 200 to 400 m and are stepped and cut. They are based on a fold hull of Paleozoic rocks in an area with high precipitation and are divided into subordinate natural areas.
