The Wupper-Ennepe plateaus are a natural spatial unit with the order number 338.13 on parts of the urban area of the Bergisch and Westphalian towns of Kierspe (northwest corner near Rönsahl ), Wipperfürth (areas east of the Wupper), Hückeswagen (east of the Wupper), Radevormwald (almost the entire urban area), Halver (western edge), Ennepetal (west of the Heilenbecke ), Schwelm (southern part) and Wuppertal (residential area Ehrenberg ). It belongs to the over-main unit Bergische Hochflächen (order number 338) in the division Bergisch-Märkische Hochflächen (order number 338.1, also called Nordbergische Hochflächen).
The spatial nature unit comprises between the Wupperfeld and Ennepe lying plateaus with the transition to Wuppertal sink (atomic number 337 1 .3) to the northwest and the Wipperdorf source region (atomic number 338.3) in the southeast. They are quite flat and partly divided into flat, disheveled ridges . They protrude 300 to 400 m (NN) above the valley floors of the rivers that border them. In the west, the transition to the eastern Wupperengal (order number 338.11) is marked by a clear incline. In the east, the heights on the watershed between the river systems of the Wupper and the Ennepe range from 350 to 400 m. The plateaus are structured by numerous spring hollows, stream valleys and a varied small relief.
The plateaus are located on the windward side of the Bergische Wetteraufgleitfläche and have a very wet, windy and cloudy, and only moderately mild climate . The annual amount of precipitation is 1200 mm, the May / July mean temperature 13.5 to 14 ° C. The soils are not very rich in base brown earths on mostly medium-sized, stony and heavy sandy-loamy subsoils.
