The Wippermulde is a natural spatial unit with the number 338.12 and, according to the manual of the natural spatial structure of Germany, comprises the two kilometer wide, open valley basin of the Wupper between Wipperfürth - Ohl at 300 m altitude and Hückeswagen at 250 m altitude within the Bergisch-Märkische plateau (natural area 338.1). A continuous valley road and the disused Wippertal Railway follow the course of the river. The town centers of the cities of Wipperfürth and Hückeswagen are located in the valley basin. This is where the eastern Wupperengal (ordinal number 338.11) joins.

The West-East-(behind Wipperfuerth in southeast-northwest direction) extending mainly in trough located transverse to the sweeping of west-south-west to east-north-east lower strata of the Süderbergland Lands and is geologically from evacuated Devonian and mitteldevonischen shales . The slope towards the Wupper from the Bever-Neye-Kerspe- ridgeland (order number 338.131) from the northeast is terraced and significantly flatter than the steeper slope from the Sülzbergland (order number 338.22) from the southwest. The southern slope is closed and rises steeply up to 50 m, while the gently sloping northern slope is divided several times by the mouths of the Kerspe , Hönnige , Neye and Bever valleys. This gives the trough a clearly asymmetrical profile. The Wupper, sometimes called Wipper in the upper reaches, meanders within the hollow in a narrower, box-shaped valley with 200 to 300 m wide floodplains .

The east of the valley basin near Wipperfürth is noticeably more restless and lies mainly in the Lower Devonian Remscheid strata . In the more mildly structured north-western part near Hückeswagen, the rock changes into lower Honsel layers , which locally contain coral limestone . The soils are medium-deep, sandy-loamy or consist of terrace clay. In addition, brown earth and the sheltered basin area favor the agricultural cultivation of crops and grassland management .
