The Mittelberg plateau is a natural spatial main unit with the number 338.0 and belongs to the natural spatial over-main unit 338 ( Bergische plateau ). According to the handbook of the natural spatial structure of Germany, they include the entire Solingen urban area, the Remscheid urban area with the exception of the eastern part, the south of Wuppertal , the south of Haan , the majority of the urban areas of Leichlingen and Burscheid , the northeast of Leverkusen and the northern edge from Wermelskirchen and Odenthal .

It is a heavily caked plateau with higher Rhine terraces south of the Wuppertal valley (337 1 .3). In the west there are terraced riedel , which are covered with loess soil . To the east, strongly structured hull areas rise from the valleys of the Wupper and their tributaries , which are broken up into ridges , knolls and remnants of land. Notched valleys , locally called Siepen , are significantly steeper in the west than in the east.

The plateaus lie on the windward side of the Bergisch weather slip surface and have annual precipitation amounts of 800 mm in the west to 1280 mm in the east. The two-peaked maximum precipitation is in the west in July and December, while in the east there is a clear maximum in winter .
