The Remscheid threshold is a small-scale natural space unit with the order number 338.061. It is an island-like mountain range from the approx. 300 m high areas of the Remscheid Bergland (natural space unit 338.060) , the greatest height of which is at 379 m near Hohenhagen .
Geologically, the Remscheid Schwelle consists of the same rock as in the surrounding area, mainly Devonian and Silurian greywacke , slate , sandstone or quartzites . The threshold is part of the Remscheid-Altenaer saddle and was probably created by revitalized tectonics during the tertiary elevation of the mountains.
On the ridge is the inner city of the Bergisch city of Remscheid , which in earlier times was also known as the “ Seestadt auf dem Berge ” due to its high location and its extensive overseas trade .
