The Ohligser Terrassenriedel are a natural space unit with the number 338.01 and belong to the superordinate natural space main unit 338.0 ( Mittelbergische Hochflächen ). According to the handbook of the natural spatial structure of Germany, they include the western Solingen urban area with the districts of Höhscheid , Aufderhöhe , Wald and Ohligs , as well as the Haaner town center.
The Ohligser Terrassenriedel are part of the higher-lying old diluvial Rhine terraces . Elongated Riedel , running from east to west, are separated from each other by the deeply cut stream valleys of Itter , Lochbach , Viehbach , Nacker Bach , Höhscheider Bach , Weinsberger Bach and Pilghauser Bach . The terrain rises from 100 m in the west to 200 m in the east. The Solingen ridge (order number 338.02) joins there with a steep step . In the west, another clearly perceptible step separates the terrace ridge lines from the sandy areas of the Hildener Mittelterrassen (order number 550.12), which are oriented towards the Rhine . In the south, the Lower Wuppertal (order number 338.04) separates the Terrassenriedel from the Burscheider Loessterrassen (order number 338.00). In the north are the Mettmann loess terraces (order number 337 1 .00).
In the west in particular, the almost woodless terrace areas are covered with loess . The Devonian basement on the steep slopes consists of Grauwacken , slate and sandstones . Large amounts of gravel have accumulated on the terrace ledges.
