The Südbergische plateau is according to the Handbook of the Natural Region Divisions of Germany a natural Spatial unit with the order number 338.2 in Bergisch Land , part of the Rhenish Massif .
It includes large parts of the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis and the Oberbergisches Kreis . In the northeast, the mountainous region of the Upper Agger and its tributary Wiehl form the natural boundary , in the southwest the Lower Rhine Bay (ordinal number 55), in the northwest the Mittelberg plateau (338.1) and in the southeast the Nutscheid .
The plateau is stepped and structured in Riedel . It is based on a fold hull of Paleozoic rocks in an area with high levels of precipitation and is divided into subordinate natural areas according to the relief energy , the different rocks and the geological conditions. Unlike the central plateaus Bergisch the südbergischen high surface residues and their approximately 50 to 150 m in the are hull mountains incised valleys southwest of Cologne Bay (551) directed toward. The roofing is done from approx. 400 m to 200 m without major gradations .
