The Bensberg Forsbacher mountainous border is according to the Handbook of the Natural Region Divisions of Germany , a small-scale natural spatial unit with the number 338.40 and is one of the superior natural environment 338.4 ( Agger-Sülz-plateaus ). It comprises a narrow strip between the Bergisch Gladbach district of Bensberg (including the town center) in the north to the Rösrath district of Forsbach (complete local area) in the south. In terms of landscape, the northeastern foothills of the Königsforst belongs to the core area of ​​the natural area.

The Bensberg-Forsbacher mountain range borders in the north on the Paffrather Kalkmulde (ordinal number 338.23) and in the east on the Sülz plateau ( 338.41) within the Bergische plateau (338). In the west, the Rhenish Slate Mountains (33) merge into the Lower Rhine Bay (55), which is lower down, and thus forms a mountain edge that gives the natural area its name. The Altenrather Heideterrasse (550.030) and the Paffrather Kalkterrasse (550.031) join the Bergische Heideterrasse (550) in the west.

The natural area is in front of the edge of the Sülz plateau to the west and rises from 140 m in the west to 180 m in the east. It is a poorly structured mountain edge, which is densely forested, apart from the settlement areas of Bensberg and Forsbach. In the western edge of the mountain is of the Rheinische main terrace superimposed of flight sands and partly by Lößsanden is covered.
