Marcel Mignot (born June 11, 1944 in Martigné-Ferchaud ) is a former French racing driver .

Career in motorsport

Marcel Mignot achieved international fame by participating in the Le Mans 24-hour race several times . He had his first start at Le Mans in 1972 in a Porsche 911 . After a defect in the power transmission, he could not finish the race. He reached his first finish a year later with 17th place overall.

The BMW Art Cars attracted a great deal of attention far beyond motorsport at Le Mans in the 1970s . The idea for these vehicles came from the French art auctioneer and racing driver Hervé Poulain , who drove a BMW 3.0 CSL painted by Alexander Calder at Le Mans in 1975 . The first Art Car with the Mignot to start at Le Mans was the BMW 320i painted by Roy Lichtenstein , with which he and Poulain finished ninth in the overall standings. In 1979 he contested the 24-hour race with the Andy Warhol - BMW M1 . In addition to Poulain, Manfred Winkelhock was the third driver to drive the car . The trio reached the final sixth place.

Mignot drove at Le Mans until 1982 ; the sixth place in 1979 remained the best result in the final classification. At the Sebring 12-hour race in 1975 , he finished ninth in a Ferrari 365 GTB / 4 .
