Guy Chasseuil
Guy Chasseuil (born January 26, 1942 ) is a former French automobile racing driver .
Career
Guy Chasseuil began his career in the French rally championship in the early 1960s . Although he remained connected to this form of motorsport all his life, he celebrated his greatest successes in road and circuit races. In 1968 he made his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and a year later won the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps with his long-time team partner Claude Ballot-Léna . In 1970 he celebrated his first class victory at Le Mans when he drove up to sixth overall with Ballot-Léna in a Porsche 914/6 GT . In 1970 he was also a partner of Ove Andersson and Björn Waldegård at the Marathon de la Route at the Nürburgring , where the trio took third place in the overall standings.
In his career, Chasseuil competed at Le Mans twelve times. The closest he came to overall victory was in 1975 as a works driver at Ligier . With Jean-Louis Lafosse he drove one of the three Ligier JS2s . The duo had the task of not taking part in a speed chase, but rather driving the Ligier safely to the finish line according to a precise marching table. When two JS2s had already failed that night, the team management changed their tactics and gave the Chasseuil / Lafosse car a free run. Driving record laps, the two gradually caught up with Jacky Ickx and Derek Bell's leading Gulf GR8 from Sunday morning . The strong performance of the French did not go unnoticed by the audience and cheered on the drivers loudly when the JS2 passed the grandstands. In the end, one lap was missing from overall victory. Many years later, Chasseuil still regretted the slow driving style early in the race, which might have cost him victory.
He competed in sports car races until the early 1980s and was last at the Sarthe in 1981. In the Kremer Racing team, he drove a ten-year-old Porsche 917 , which - adapted to the regulations - was the main attraction of the race. However, after only 82 laps, the Porsche had to be parked after major engine failure.
In the first half of the 1980s, Chasseuil again took part in a number of races for the World Rally Championship , such as the 1982 Corsica Rally , in which he drove a Ferrari 308 GTB from French Ferrari importer Charles Pozzi . Ten years earlier he had contested the same rally in a Ford GT70 .
