Xavier Lapeyre in some sources also Lepeyre (born April 13, 1942 ) is a former French racing driver .

Career

After training as a chiropractor (he has been practicing this profession again in Toulouse since 2007), he switched to French motorsport in 1972. He first drove in Formula 2 and contested the European Championship in 1975 on a Chevron B76 and in 1977 with a Martini MK19 . Despite initial difficulties, he switched to rallying in 1979 , where he quickly won victories. He won the Rallye de la Montagne Noire in 1979 and 1980 and the Rallye de Quercy in 1981 .

In 1983/1984 he drove a Range Rover ETT in the Paris-Dakar rally , from which he retired early. A year later he drove an Audi quattro for the ROC-Audi team to 17th place in the overall standings. With Audi he was overall winner of the French touring car championship in 1986 and 1991 and vice-champion in 1985, 1987 and 1988.

During his time as a racing driver, he took part in the Le Mans 24-hour race a total of thirteen times from 1974 to 1991 , with the best result in 1978 when he was twelfth in the overall standings.
