Max Mamers

Max Mamers (born May 26, 1943 ) is a former French racing car driver and co-founder of the Andros Trophy .

Career

Max Mamers' racing career began in the early 1970s. The French competed in Formula Renault races in 1971 and 1972, and competed in both the French and international championships. In the monoposto sport , however, he remained relatively unsuccessful, his name is more associated with sports car racing , rallycross and the trophy Andros ice races.

In 1974 he competed for Grac-Gotti in the World Sports Car Championship and made his debut at the Le Mans 24-hour race . Together with Xavier Lapeyre , however, he was unable to finish the race on a Grac-Gotti MT20 . In 1975 he became a works driver at Welter Racing and in 1977 he achieved the first finish for Welter in Le Mans on a World Championship P76 in 15th place. His best international placement on the Sarthe circuit was 11th overall in Le Mans in 1980 on a P80 World Championship .

The Frenchman later enjoyed great success in rallycross, where he won the French championship in 1982 and 1983 on a Talbot Matra Murena . In 1985 (Citroën Visa 4 × 4) and 1986 (BMW 325i 4 × 4) he was runner-up, and in 1987 (BMW M3 and BMW 635 CSi) he took third place. In 1990, after the end of his active career, he and the entrepreneur Frédéric Gervoson founded the Trophée Andros, a French ice racing series , of which he is the head of organization to this day.
