Anne-Charlotte Verney (born May 17, 1943 in Le Mans ) is a former French racing driver .

Career

Anne-Charlotte Verney became known beyond the borders of her home country France through two events:

In 1980 she drove the Le Mans 24-hour race together with the French actor Jean-Louis Trintignant . It was Trintignant's only appearance as a driver at Le Mans and the race ended prematurely after a gearbox failure for the Kremer Porsche 935 .

In 1982 she was Mark Thatcher's co-driver in the Paris-Dakar Rally . Verney and the son of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and a mechanic got lost in the Sahara and went undetected for five days. Only a Hercules C-130 of the Algerian Air Force sighted the Peugeot 504 50 km off the official route. The two pilots and the mechanic were recovered unharmed.

Her best placement at Le Mans - where she competed ten times - was sixth overall in 1981. In 1977 she finished fourth in the Tour de France for automobiles .
