Tour de France for automobiles 1977
The 1977 Tour de France for automobiles was held as a stage race for automobiles from September 15 to 23 in France .
The 1977 edition of the Tour Auto ran over five stages and 4500 km. After the prologue, the race started in Nice and led back to Nice via Albi , Villeneuve-sur-Lot , Nevers and Bourg-en-Bresse . Of 112 starters, 48 reached the finish in southern France.
The event ended with a favorite victory for Bernard Darniche in a Lancia Stratos , which only Jacques Alméras in a Porsche Carrera could follow before he retired . Michèle Mouton won the women’s standings , who also remained victorious in the Group 3 class and came second in the overall standings.
