Tour de France for automobiles 1986

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1986 Tour de France for automobiles was the last Tour de France for automobiles and was held as a rally in northern France in autumn 1986.

Since the race was still largely held on public roads, the event no longer met the necessary safety requirements in motorsport. The main reason for the fact that the last tour was run in 1986 was the lack of sponsorship money. The French motorsport press showed little interest in a car race across France. Spectators came only sparsely. The race therefore ended with great financial damage for the organizers.

The overall ranking was secured by Frenchman François Chatriot in a Renault 5 Maxi Turbo ahead of his compatriot Didier Auriol , who drove a Mercedes-Benz 190 .
