Tour de France for automobiles 1957

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1957 Tour de France for automobiles was held as a stage race for automobiles from September 15 to 21 in France .

The race

Triggered by the large number of participants in 1956 , those responsible for the Tour Auto took up the course of 1953 and organized the overall ranking in two classes. As always, the race started in Nice and ended after three long stages in Reims . 113 participants were at the start, of which 37 reached the finish line after 5507 kilometers and ten special stages.

The big favorite of the French press was the Ferrari factory driver Maurice Trintignant , who however had to admit defeat to his brand colleagues Olivier Gendebien and Lucien Bianchi , who remained victorious in the sports car class. Jean Hébert won the touring car class in an Alfa Romeo Giulietta . Annie Soisbault and Michèle Cancre secured the women's standings on a Triumph TR3 , who finished 21st in the overall standings.
