The Simca Aronde , initially referred to as the Simca 9 Aronde , was a mid-range vehicle manufactured by the French car manufacturer Simca from 1951 to 1964. The car was Simca's first independent model, as the models before that were licensed products from the Italian manufacturer Fiat - the Simca 5/6 was a replica of the Fiat 500 Topolino and the Simca 8 of the Fiat 1100 . After the Second World War , the development of a successor to the Fiat 1100 was delayed; it was less important for Fiat than the later Fiat 1400 and the Fiat Topolino . Simca therefore developed its own model, only the engine was adopted. The four-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 1.2 l (bore: 72 mm, stroke: 75 mm) had a triple-bearing crankshaft , side camshaft and overhead valves. It developed 45 hp (33 kW) at 4600 rpm and delivered a maximum torque of 85 Nm at a speed of 2700 rpm. The power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a single-disc dry clutch, a fully synchronized four-speed gearbox with steering wheel gearshift , one-piece cardan shaft and a hypoid-toothed final drive. The chassis consisted of double wishbones at the front with coil springs and anti-roll bar, a worm steering system and a rigid axle at the rear on leaf springs and hydraulically operated drum brakes on all wheels. Like the larger Fiat 1400, the Aronde had a self-supporting body and a subframe at the front.

"Aronde" is an old French expression for " swallow ". This term was used because the swallow also graced the Simca logo of that time.

There were a total of three generations of the Aronde, of which a total of 1.4 million copies were made. This made Simca the second largest French automobile manufacturer in the 1950s.

The Aronde was produced until 1964 and replaced by the Simca 1300 and Simca 1500 presented in March 1963 .

9 Aronde

The Simca 9 Aronde model was produced from 1951 to 1955. The Aronde was a modern vehicle with a self-supporting body . The 1221 cm³ gasoline engine from the Simca 8 was used as the engine . There was a four-door sedan , a three-door station wagon and a two-door coupe , which, like other Simca coupes, was initially manufactured by Facel . This coupe was later replaced by a body based on the sedan, called the Grand Large .

The Simca 9 Aronde was well received in France and sold over 60,000 times by 1953.

Aronde (90A)

The second generation, the Simca Aronde (Type 90A) model, came onto the market in October 1955. It was a facelift with a modified front and rear view, but with a completely new engine: 1290 cc Flash .

There were the trim levels Elysée and Montlhéry (named after the racetrack in Montlhéry ). In October 1957 there were two other variants - the Océane , a two-door convertible , and the Plein Ciel , a hardtop coupé; both manufactured again at Facel.

In January 1957 it was 500,000. Aronde and now exported to the USA .

Aronde (P60)

In September 1958, a newly designed sedan, the Simca Aronde model (type P60), was presented. The station wagon was only given a new front, but was still the previous model. A new Coupé Monaco was presented, as well as a lower-priced entry-level model Etoile , which replaced the Elysée variant and had only a 1090 cc engine.

From October 1960 a new engine ( called Rush ) with 1.3 liter displacement and a five-bearing crankshaft was used. A 70 hp version ( Rush Super ) was available from September 1961 in the Montlhéry Spéciale sedan and in the Monaco Spéciale coupé .
