The Talbot Horizon was a compact class vehicle from the car manufacturer Talbot , which was built from February 1978 to June 1986.

The market launch took place in September 1978 as Simca Horizon from Chrysler Europe . The car was voted " Car of the Year 1979" (as Simca Horizon ) .

history

The Horizon used the platform of the Simca 1100 . In Europe the equipment lines LS, GL and GLS (later also as SX, a version with automatic transmission) were offered. Since PSA had bought the European branch of Chrysler in the summer of 1978, the vehicle was sold on by the new owner from August 1979, now under the new label Talbot-Simca Horizon . From the spring of 1980 the name Simca was dropped completely.

Talbot Horizon (1980–1982)

In July 1982 the Horizon got a facelift and the program now included the models LS (1118 cm³, 59 PS), GL (1294 cm³ 68 PS), GLS (1442 cm³ 69 PS), the model S (1442 cm³ 83 PS) and the SX (1442 cm³ 83 HP with automatic transmission).

The second series differed from the first generation in some visual changes, such as a front spoiler, a smaller rear window and an enlarged trunk. A 1.9 liter diesel engine was also introduced. From then on there was also a 5-speed gearbox in some models (including the EX version).

Since PSA decided in 1984 to discontinue Talbot production in favor of new Peugeot models, the Talbot Arizona prototype, which was still developed by Talbot as a successor to the Horizon, was launched on the market in October 1985 under the name Peugeot 309 .

The production of the Horizon was finally stopped in June 1986. The copies already produced were sold until the beginning of 1987.

In the USA, an identical model except for the chassis was produced by Chrysler in Detroit until 1990 and sold under the Plymouth brand as the Plymouth Horizon and under the Dodge brand as the Dodge Omni . Of Saab-Valmet was Talbot Simca Horizon manufactured in Finland and its Saab-Valmet Horizon sold.
