The Simca SUMB (also known as Simca Marmon) is a small French military truck that UNIC produced between October 1964 and 1973 .

The French army was looking for a small off-road truck in the style of the Unimog . However, no French manufacturer had such a vehicle in their delivery program. The SUMB was then developed. The name comes from the initials of the companies involved, Simca as the engine supplier, UNIC as the chassis manufacturer, Marmon-Herrington as the supplier of the axles and the all-wheel drive with Pont-à-Mousson gearbox with four gears plus off-road reduction, and the body designer Bocquet . The body was supplied by Carossier from Geneva .

The chassis came from the Simca Cargo , which Simca had taken over from Ford France , as well as its Ford V8 side valve engine, which Simca had brought to 4.2 liters displacement and 74 kW (100 hp). The tank volume was 130 liters. The most widespread variant as a flatbed truck with a tarpaulin had a capacity of 12 people or 1500 kg payload.

Apart from the various models with military superstructures, there were also versions specially designed for transports with a payload of up to 1700 kg.

6976 copies were delivered to the French army and in 1994 some of them were converted to more modern Renault turbo diesel engines with five-speed manual gearboxes. Improved braking systems were also retrofitted from this point on. While the gasoline engine consumed an average of 30–35 liters at a top speed of 80 km / h, consumption with a diesel engine fell to 19–23 liters at a top speed of 90 km / h.

The successor to the SUMB in the French army was the Saviem TP3 , but the SUMB are still in use in the army today. However, since 2005 they have been taken out of service and also given to private individuals.
