The Simca 6 is a further development of the French - Italian small car Simca 5 , which Fiat designed and which Simca built from 1948 to 1950 (Fiat as Topolino C until 1955).

history

Shortly after the Second World War , Fiat presented the Topolino B. While the Simca 5 and Fiat Topolino A models are largely the same, the Simca design office in Nanterre demonstrated for the first time in its history its independence from the Fiat parent company in Turin when designing the Simca 6. The Italian parent company opened in March 1948 Geneva Motor Show brought out version B of its famous Topolino. There were no major changes from version A; they wanted to test the public's taste before replacing this well-known model.

The Simca 6 was derived directly from the Simca 5 and anticipated the characteristics of the future Fiat Topolino C, which was withheld as a precaution. The changes were:

  • a carefully “Americanized” front of the vehicle with a larger but lower radiator grille and headlights integrated into the front fenders, such as in the Peugeot 203 or the Renault 4CV
  • an elongated rear of the vehicle with a small trunk that was only accessible from the inside and that was almost entirely occupied by the spare wheel
  • An engine ( that of the Fiat 500 Topolino B ), whose output with the same displacement of 569 cm³ was now 12 kW (16.5 hp) instead of 8.8 kW (12 hp) and whose valves now hung in the cylinder head and from a side camshaft were actuated
  • two body versions: 2-seater convertible sedan or small station wagon with a load capacity of 250 kg.

5 liter test

With 5 liters of petrol, the Simca 6 got exactly 108.052 km, which corresponds to an average petrol consumption of 4.62 l / 100 km.

Very short career

The Simca 6, presented to the public at the Paris Motor Show in October 1947 , received its official type approval in May 1948. Series production began in the summer of 1948 and the first cars were delivered to customers in September 1948. His career was short; it lasted only three years, in which only 16,508 copies of both body variants were produced together: 200 copies in 1948, a little more than 10,000 copies in 1949 and a little over 5000 copies in 1950.

The station wagon with a payload of 250 kg received its type approval in 1949 and replaced the station wagon of the Simca 5.

The cars were equipped with the new engines of the Fiat Topolino B with OHV valve control, which delivered an output of 12 kW (16.5 hp) with the same displacement. It had a new chassis with an extended rear that could accommodate two semi-elliptical leaf spring packages and wheels with a larger diameter. The new body corresponded to the taste of the time with a trunk that accommodated the spare wheel and the petrol tank. The French model was presented more than 17 months before the Italian, which was called "Topolino C". The Topolino C was enormously successful, was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1949 and 376,371 units were manufactured from 1949 to 1955.

This small car with only 2 seats no longer suited the taste of French customers who preferred the Renault 4CV or the Citroën 2CV . The management decided to concentrate their efforts on rejuvenating the Simca 8 into the future, more modern Simca 9 . You had to wait ten years for a new small car from Simca, the model 1000 .
